BCC
Introduction
The GBS BCC (Biometric Capture Component) is an application developed for registering civil profiles and babies from their biometric and biographical data, such as fingerprints, face, palmprints, iris and others. Registrations are stored in the GBDS and can be used in identification and verification processes. As part of the Griaule Biometric Suite, the enrollment process also checks new records for biometric issues (such as low quality, duplicates, non-compliance with sequence control) and possible fraud (biometrics duplicated between profiles of different people).
Depending on the environment, configurations and user permissions, some features and screens may not be available.
This manual will cover all civil capture and identification processes, baby capture and checkout, and configuration management.
This manual is updated for BCC version 1.8.0.
Prerequisites
Operating System:
Windows 7, 8, 10 or 11.
Linux Red Hat 8.
BCC Services installed and configured.
2 GB available on disk.
8GB of RAM or more.
Intel i3 or higher.
Windows Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable package (x86).
Windows Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable package (x86).
If your environment uses a Canon PowerShot camera, it is necessary to install the Zadig package.
Access and Authentication
You must access the BCC with a web browser and we recommend Google Chrome. The access URL is specific to each environment.
If necessary, contact the Griaule support team to obtain the correct URL.
Authentication is required to access the application. The credentials required for BCC are username and password.

At the bottom of the screen there is an option to change the language to the desired one. This option is also available on the Settings page after login.
Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)
When two-factor authentication (2FA) is enabled, the first time you log in, after entering your username and password, a QR Code will be shown that must be registered in Google Authenticator.

After successfully registering the QR Code in Google Authenticator, enter the six-digit code generated and click Submit.
You will only need to register the QR Code once. But, at each subsequent login, you will need to enter the six-digit code generated by Google Authenticator.

There is a limited number of unsuccessful login attempts a user can make. Whenever an incorrect code is entered, an error message will be displayed:

If you reach the maximum number of unsuccessful login attempts, your account will be automatically locked.

If your account is locked, contact the system administrator.
Simultaneous Logins and Browser Registration
Only one session per user is allowed. It is not possible to log in simultaneously with the same profile more than once in the application. If a user is already connected and another access occurs using the same username and password, the user with the older session will be notified and disconnected on the next action.

Also, only one browser can be used at a time. When attempting to log in using a different browser, the user will be informed that it is necessary to authenticate the new browser. Authenticating a new browser will revoke access from the previous browser.

To authenticate a new browser, click Authenticate and then enter the verification code that will be sent to the email linked to the user's account.

If authentication is successful, a notification will appear in the upper right corner of the screen after login.

Change or Reset Password
For security reasons, you can change your password or reset it if you forget it.
Change Password
To change your password, after logging in, click to open the user menu, in the upper right corner of the screen, and click Change password.

Then enter the current password and the new password twice. Make sure you meet the password requirements; they are listed below the new password field and will turn green when met. Finally, to confirm the change, click Change password.

Reset Password
To reset your password, on the login screen, click Forgot your password?:

Then enter the profile username and click Send.

An email containing a verification code will be sent to the email address linked to that profile. Enter the verification code and click Send code.

If the code is correct, you will be able to create a new password. Enter the new password twice. Make sure you meet the password requirements; they are listed below the new password field and will turn green when met. Finally, to confirm the reset, click Reset password.

User Interface
After logging in, the main page will be displayed. Depending on your environment and user permissions, the main page may not look like the image below. This manual will assume that all permissions are available to the user.

The main page is divided into the sections Civil Capture and Baby Capture. You can also access these functions through the top bar. There are some options on the far right of the top bar; they are listed in the chapter Settings and Shortcuts.
Civil Capture
Civil capture is a process of registering a person in the database by obtaining their biometric and biographical information. The biometric data that BCC can capture are:
Fingerprint
Palmprint
Iris
Face
Signature
And the biographical data are those previously configured on the Fields.
To start a civil capture, click New profile.
New Profile
When opening the New Profile page, you will have the option to continue from an incomplete profile via the side menu or click the Start enrollment button to begin a new registration.

Clicking Start enrollment will take you to a page to enter the person's biographical data. You can configure the data to be collected on the Fields.
Biographical information will always be the first to be filled in a new profile. However, the order and which biometrics will be present may vary depending on your environment.

After providing the required biographical information, click the Next button. It will take you to one of the biometric collection pages. The biometric capture pages are described below.
Face Capture
To capture a face, make sure a camera is already connected to the computer. If there is no camera or the system does not recognize it, an error will occur:

BCC Services will automatically open the capture window if the camera is connected.

Depending on your environment settings, the capture may start automatically. Otherwise, click the Click to capture button. Then wait for the automatic capture or click the Capture button.
You can adjust image brightness, contrast and zoom using the sliders on the left during the capture process.
After capture, BCC will try to crop the image to ICAO standards, and if the standard is not met, an error message will appear as shown in the image. After the first capture you can also upload an image by clicking the import icon above the Ok button.
Some options may not appear for you if you do not have user permission to access them.

BCC will also try to correct brightness and contrast after capture. You can also modify this using the sliders.

You can also check if BCC obtained the correct positions for eyes and mouth by checking the Featuresbox. It will place a marker shaped like a + on the eyes and mouth. You can correct the marker position by clicking the Adjust button.
After clicking the Adjust button, select the desired eye and correct the positions. After correcting both eyes, click the Reprocess button and click Ok.
Then click the Next button to proceed to the subsequent capture.
Sequence Control
BCC offers two capture methods for sequence control: 4-4-2 and 2-2-1. When you are on the page, the capture should start automatically. Otherwise, click the Click to capture button.
On the Capture Screen, you can see some information about the collection:
Live capture window

If there is an exception that prevents capture, you can mark it in the menu on the left side of the capture window. Exceptions are listed under Palm and Finger Exceptions. After selecting one of the exception options, the Next button will change to the Accept button. Press this button to continue the capture.
Marking an exception in the sequence control capture will mark ALL fingers highlighted with the exception.
Also, you can check the Show features checkbox and show the minutiae extracted from fingerprints on the capture screen. If you have permission, you can also import fingerprints by clicking the import button.
If you choose to import the sequence control, you will need to import an image containing all the highlighted fingers.
You will need to recollect the sequence control step if any finger does not meet the configured quality criteria. After the capture is complete, you can see its quality at the bottom of each fingerprint. You can also check the Show featurescheckbox. It will show the minutiae extracted from the fingerprints on the capture screen.

Hover over the desired fingerprint to remove it or recollect it.

You can only remove or recollect sequence control fingerprints if none of the main capture fingers are collected. If recollection is necessary, remove all fingerprints from the main capture.
If you need to recollect any sequence control capture, ALL sequence control capture steps must be recollected. For example, after a successful capture, if you click to recollect the thumbs, you will need to recollect all 4-4-2 or 2-2-1 captures.
Then click the Next button to proceed to the subsequent capture.
Fingerprint Capture
BCC offers the possibility to perform rolled and flat captures. When you reach the Fingerprint Capture screen, the capture window will open automatically. This window will show some information:

Palm and Finger Exceptions
Some conditions may make extraction of the finger or palm impossible at capture time. To handle these situations, you can mark the capture as an exception. BCC offers two exception modules, the simplified and the technical. Note that only one of these modules will be available at a time in your environment.
The simplified module offers the following exceptions:
Damaged
Bandaged
Skipped
Amputated
Low quality
While the technical module offers these exceptions:
Adactyly
Ankylosis
Ectrodactyly
Hyperphalangy
Polydactyly
Microdactyly
Macrodactyly
Syndactyly
When dealing with an exception, select the desired one from the menu and click OkRemember that choosing an exception for the sequence control capture will set the exception for ALL the fingers that would be captured in that capture step.
Verification
The verification tool is used to verify a person's identity through one of their biometrics. This process consists of a 1:1 verification in which a key (for example, CPF or passport number) is provided along with a biometric capture to be compared with the profile registered with the same key.
To perform a verification, click the Verify box on the main page or click Verification in the top bar menu. Clicking will take you to the Verification page. You will have buttons to select the biometric that needs to be captured on this page. The biometrics that can be captured are:
Face
Fingerprint
Palmprint
Iris
The person's entire or partial biometric profile

Selecting one of these options will open the capture window for its respective biometric. The only exception is the profile option, where you can choose which and how many biometric pieces of information should be captured to be compared in the verification operation. Profile capture is explained in the Verification via Profile.
If the verification returns a match, the profile page will be returned and the following message with the information of the matched profile will be displayed. Click the View profile button to open the profile.

If there is no match, the following message will be displayed.

There is a possibility that the searched key is not present in the database. In this case, an error will appear.

Verification via Profile
Verification via profile is an operation where you can collect more than one biometric to be compared with the desired person. By clicking the profile option, a new window will open.

There will be options to collect all biometric data in this mode, except sequence control and signature capture. The profile window offers some possibilities to capture biometric data. These are:
Click the buttons in the lower right corner of the window
Right-click the biometric you want and click the Capture button.

Baby Capture
Baby capture is a process of registering a newborn in the database by obtaining their biometric and biographical information. To perform a baby capture, click the New baby box on the main page or the New baby option in the top menu. This page will be displayed.

Incomplete baby profiles will be listed in the side menu. On the same page, you can see the fields required to start registering a newborn:
A checkbox to choose the guardian, where the selected one is highlighted in green
A field to enter the guardian's key
A field to enter the baby's key
After filling in the information, click the Start enrollment button. Some different possibilities may happen from now on:
The guardian is not registered in the database, leading to registering the guardian first.
The guardian is registered, and the baby is not registered, leading to registering the baby.
The baby is already registered and linked to a guardian, interrupting the operation.
These possibilities will be explained below.
Guardian not registered
If the guardian is not registered, a message will appear informing that the guardian was not found. An option to start guardian registration will be displayed. To start the registration, click Register Guardian.
Registering a guardian follows the same process described for civil New Profile enrollment capture, where the biographical data may differ depending on your Fields.
There is only one difference between this registration and the civil registration. The review screen will have one more button, leading to the guardian review of the Baby not registered, skipping the guardian identification operation.
Baby already registered
If the baby is already registered, it does not matter whether the guardian is registered or not. A notification will show that a baby was found with the provided key. You can view the baby's profile by clicking the View profile button or close the notification by clicking the Change value button.

Baby not registered
If the guardian is already registered and the baby is not, clicking Start enrollment will display a notification with a button to Verify guardian. You need to authenticate the guardian with the capture of any finger. After that, the guardian review page will be displayed.

If all information is correct, you can continue by clicking the Next button. This will lead to the baby's biographical data. Fill in all required biographical data and click the Next button.

Note that the baby's key provided before starting the enrollment will already be filled in.
The next step is face capture. The Face Capture window will start automatically. Capture the baby's face or upload an image if you have the appropriate permissions and click Ok.

You can remove or recollect the image by hovering over it and clicking the desired button.
Proceeding you will reach the capture of the baby's palm. The capture windows will open automatically.

In the capture window, you can see:
The palm that needs to be captured, highlighted in blue and the text at the top of the window.
The capture number, since each baby palm needs to be captured TWO times.
The exception menu. The list of exceptions can be seen in Palm and Finger Exceptions
The Capture button to force the baby's palm capture and not wait for the automatic capture.
The Cancel button to close the window and cancel the capture.
The Confirm button to approve the captures after both captures of both palms have been made.
As mentioned, the baby's palmprints need to be captured twice. There are some indicators on the capture screen of which capture you are on:
In the capture title it will show (1/2) or (2/2)
The dots above the palmprint (green for captured, blue for capture)
The image below shows these examples:

After the captures are made, click Confirm to close the windows. If any capture needs to be recollected, hover over the fingerprint image and select one of the Remove or Recollect options. To proceed to the review, click Next.
In the review you can revisit the baby's and guardian's information and biometrics. Check the displayed information. On this screen, you can complete the registration by clicking Done and export all baby and guardian information to a .pdf file by clicking Export PDF.

After clicking Done, a page displaying the message "Profile created successfully" will be shown. On this page, you can Export PDF of the profile, view the baby's profile by clicking View profile in the middle of the page or create a New baby profile.

Verify baby output
Baby checkout is a double verification operation. The baby's profile is linked to the guardian's profile and the baby checkout operation ensures that the baby is accompanied by their guardian.
This operation does not change any profile in the database, neither the baby profile nor the guardian's.
To perform the baby checkout operation, click the Verify baby output box on the main page or click Verify baby output on the top menu bar.

Choose the baby's key and enter the value. Entering a key that does not exist in the database will return an error. After entering the correct value, click the Verify baby button. It will open the baby's palm capture.

After the palm capture returns a success, the following message will be displayed. Click the Verify guardian button to continue the checkout.

This will open the fingerprint capture page. Capture a guardian finger to proceed.

After capture, click Ok. If it is not a match, a failure message will be displayed and you will need to restart the checkout process. If it is a match, a message showing success and the guardian profile information will be displayed.

After verifying the guardian, the checkout process is complete. You can click View profile to access the guardian's profile.
Profiles
To access the profile page, click the Profiles box on the main page or click the Profile list button on the top menu bar. Accessing via the profiles box located in the baby capture area will filter only babies.
On the profile list page you can view and search for profiles present in the GBDS and in the local database. You will see the profile listing, count, a key and a biographic identifying the profile, a menu to select filters, the applied filters area and the transaction status. Clicking a profile will take you to the profile page.

The profiles you see on this page can have three possible statuses:
GBDS OK, marked with a green dot.
Analysis in the ETR, marked with an orange dot. This happens when a profile has some untreated exception.
Available for GBDS, marked with a blue dot.
Sent to GBDS, marked with a green dot. This transitional status happens after a profile is sent and has not yet been removed from the local listing.
GBDS Failure, marked with a red dot. This happens when there is an error sending a profile to the GBDS.
To narrow your search, you can filter profiles. The options to filter profiles are:
Date - Restricts the list to a date range. There are also shortcuts for one day (today), last week and last month.
Key or biographic - Restricts the list to one of the pre-configured profile fields that you can select from the menu.
Include related - This field is only available when filtering by key or biographic. When selected, it will bring the profile filtered by the key or biographic and all babies for which that profile is responsible.
List only babies - Restricts the list to profiles registered as babies.
Include exceptions - Include profiles that are in exception in the ETR.
Local listing - Changes the GBDS profile list to the local database list.
After clicking a profile in the list, you will enter the profile page.

On this page, you can see the person's complete profile. You can hover over any biographical information and click to copy it. You can also click on a biometric field to expand it.
Additionally, it is also possible to export the profile to a .pdf file by clicking Export PDF. And, if you have the appropriate permissions, export the profile's original images and metadata in a .zip file by clicking Export images.
Editing GBDS OK Profiles
When a profile is in the GBDS, it is marked with the status GBDS OK. You can edit biographical and biometric information in these profiles if you have the appropriate permissions. Also, the profile page will have two additional buttons: Edit and Send to GBDS.

To edit biographical information, click the Edit button in the upper right corner of the page.

You can also recollect or remove a biometric field. Hover over the biometric, and the options should appear in the corner as highlighted in the image below. Clicking the recollect option will open the capture window for the desired biometric.

After modifying the profile, click the Send to GBDS button to resend the profile to GBDS. A confirmation window will open. Confirming will send the profile to the GBDS. After that, BCC will display a notification indicating success.
